Two Packets of Sugar

In March 2006, my parents sat us down for a very serious family meeting. A string of soft, hesitant, regretful words: Dad wouldn’t be coming home for weekends any more. He was moving away permanently. I was disillusioned and angry and fifteen years old. My outlook changed: I became critical of my friends and myself … read more →
Great running with you for a few miles .rushing to find help for Tobee (the boekrn Fibula girl) totally trashed any attempt at breaking 9 hrs Kudos to Heather, the very kind girl who sacrificed her race to stay with her. She was 2 1/2 hrs delayed and dropped out. I did not know what running courtesy is in that situation..anyway, I limped in to complete the course (in its entirety) in 11:37. ughh Was not happy with the deception the RD implied with the race description and her letter to me stating that this is a great beginners course..rather than trash the RD, I will simply opt to not participate in any race put on by them.Poor girl! She really was hurt. Can't shake off a boekrn fibula. I don't know what the protocol is in that situation either. I just know that if I were not bleeding or in dire condition, I wouldn't want anyone to wait on me. If I've got food and water, I'll be OK for an hour or so until someone gets me.I feel like this race would be fine for beginners as long as the elevation information gets corrected so that one can train appropriately. I think sometimes experienced ultramarathoners turned RDs are so used to doing crazy races that they just forget what a shock to the system this sport can be for newbies (self-included). The RDs also put on the Georgia Jewel and the timing is right for me to do the 35 or 50. That race is in its second year and it is on an established trail (Pinhoti) so the difficulty can be validated independently.
